Each year an adult will typically have one or two bouts of diarrhoea often accompanied by pain, cramps and bloating. Most people will suffer from acute diahorrea which comes on suddenly but doesn't normally last for longer than 1 to 5 days. Most episodes are not serious unless the patient is elderly or a very young child.
Travellers Diarrhoea as a result of eating contaminated foor or drink usually in a more exotic destination can be controlled by simple remedies but if it develops into someting more serious this can be treated with Ciprofloxacin. Check in the travel section under Travellers Diarrhoea if you think you may need antibiotic treatment.
